EXAMPLE  SHORT PAPERS

Papers from HON 102, fall 1999.  Each is preceded by its sentence outline plus some brief comments.  In the papers their theses and the topic sentences of the supporting paragraphs are highlighted in red.  Each is a good example of a well-structured paper, and that structure is obvious from the sentence outline.  Special thanks to Laura Blaser, David Campbell, Laura Kremer, Brandon Preston, and Sabrina Shepherd (whose paper won the English Department competition for the best freshman paper of 1999) for permitting their papers to be shown here.

Although papers should be double-spaced, they are here shown single-spaced.

Plato and Lincoln                    The Cave and Faulkner

And here are three papers from 1997 - when HON 102 didn't have a Civil War component.  Also the documentation style (MLA) is not the one (Chicago) that we now use.

Plato and literature (Willa Cather) paper

Literature (William Faulkner) paper

Plato and literature (Barbara Kingsolver) paper
