Gillian Brock, Just Deserts and Needs.  The Southern Journal of Philosophy, (1999),
Vol 37.

1)  On the 3rd page of section III, right after "iii"  Brock mentions "backward-looking considerations".  What might she mean by this?

2) Comment on whether or to what extent Brock would agree with:

If it is just to distribute economic goods according to desert, then it is just to
distribute economic goods according to need.

3) Some of Brock's points D1-D10 are given as basic premises or beginning points or assumptions - she doesn't claim they are derived from any other of the ten points in that list.  And some of D1-D10 (she thinks) follow from or are derived from other of D1-D10.  For each of D1-D10:

If it functions as a basic premise or assumption, then identify it as such.

If it follows from or is derived from (one or more) other points on the list, then state
which (one or more) it is derived from.  (Don't just say that each one lower on the list
is in general derived from all of those above it!  State which one(s) it is directly derived
from, or else identify it as a basic premise.

4) The last lines before VI say: "Can desert survive the radical critiques?  I examine next how it can, but at a price."

    a) What are these radical critiques?  State each one in a sentence.

    b) Explain what the price is, and how, by paying the price, desert survives.
