The Major in Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy and Religion offers a comprehensive undergraduate major in philosophy for students who wish to understand the main ideological forces at work around the world. The program, which may include a concentration in religion, will effectively prepare students for graduate study at other universities. It also serves as preparation for advanced professional training in fields where a background in philosophy is highly recommended. For example, philosophy majors are always among the leaders in LSAT scores, which is a major part of the requirement for entrance into law school. Philosophy seeks to cultivate the art of clear and effective reasoning, and offers the student a thorough grounding in philosophical ideas and concepts.
